Opus one cab 20128/8/2023 ![]() ![]() Opus One is a single wine, a Bordeaux Blend sourced from the estate vineyards in Oakville, which include blocks of the famous To Kalon vineyard. Opus One's brand grew considerably in the 1990s, particularly in markets outside of the United States, and in 2005, when Robert Mondavi Winery was acquired by Constellation Brands, Opus One also became part-owned by the multi-national company. ![]() It was released to the public in 1984, but had already attracted attention, as a single case of the wine had sold for $24,000 at the first Napa Valley Wine Auction in 1981. The collaboration was conceived in the 1970s and then first realised in 1979, when the first vintage of Opus One was created. It continues to be one of the most expensive Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant wines produced in Napa Valley. It was the first premium California wine sold in Europe. ![]() Crane Vineyard under the el Coco label and the GB Crane label.Opus One is one of the world's most famous wines, and is a partnership of two of the most respected figures from Bordeaux and Napa Valley, Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild and Robert Mondavi. Since that first year wines were made from our G.B. Hours earlier they had signed the paperwork to buy the vineyard and it was just in the nick of time.they picked the grapes the next morning. Previous vintage 93 Points Robert Parker: "A blend of 76% Zinfandel, 13% Charbono, 6% Grenache and 5% Petite Sirah, the Disciples Red is medium to deep garnet-purple in color with gorgeous notions of hoisin, Black Forest cake, prunes and potpourri with hints of black pepper, unsmoked cigars and cloves. The sixth vintage of Dave Phinney's Disciples Red under the Crane Assembly label, the 2019 has arrived. Your wishlist has been temporarily saved. 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot and 1% Malbec. The fine-grained, plush tannins evolve into a long, supple finish. This seductive wine shows flavors of black cassis, black cheerry and a hint of cocoa powder. The juicy entry offers a round, silky mouthfeel with just enought acidity to complement the satin texture. The Opus One 2019 offers a harmonious aromatic balance of rich dark fruit, stems of roses and earthy forest floor. The blend is 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot." It's another beautiful wine from this team. I don't think it has the same precision as the 2018, but it brings another level of hedonism. Beautiful black raspberry, cassis, toasted spice, lead pencil, and subtle oak all make an appearance, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a rounded, layered mouthfeel, impressive tannins, and a great finish. Try after 2028."ĩ8 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Similarly ruby/purple-hued, the 2019 Opus One is cut from the same cloth as the 2018 yet has a touch more baby fat and opulence, at least as this stage. A blend of 78% cabernet sauvignon, 8% merlot, 7% petit verdot, 6% cabernet franc and 1% malbec. Fantastic length and structure to the wine, with tightness and focus. Tasted as a barrel sample, this is a truly magnificent Opus One in the making!"ĩ9 Points James Suckling: "The purity of fruit is really something else here, with currants and fresh flowers, such as violets and roses. Full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with juicy black, blue and red fruits, framed by velvety tannins and background freshness, finishing on a compelling earthy/mineral note. This year, with the 2019s, he was still tweaking the blend, but he did mention that this is "pretty close to the final blend." Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Opus One leaps from the glass with notes of Black Forest cake, Morello cherries, mulberries and fresh blackcurrants plus hints of licorice, wilted roses, Sichuan pepper and iron ore. Limited.ĩ9 Points Robert Parker: "Winemaker Michael Silacci commented that usually the blends are finished in January or February after the vintage. ![]()
